Comprehensive Eye Exams

Your vision can change over time — and regular eye exams are an important part of maintaining healthy eyes. At Coquitlam Centre Eye Care, we provide comprehensive eye examinations for patients of all ages, from young children to seniors.

What is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

More Than Just a Vision Check.

A comprehensive eye exam goes beyond determining whether you need glasses or contact lenses. It allows your optometrist to evaluate your vision, assess the overall health of your eyes and look for signs of conditions that may require further attention.

At Coquitlam Centre Eye Care, we take the time to understand your vision, eye health and individual needs so that we can provide appropriate recommendations and ongoing care.

COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT

What Does an Eye Exam Include?

Depending on the patient's needs, an examination may include assessment of:

Visual Acuity

Evaluating how clearly you can see at different distances.

Prescription

Determining whether vision correction is needed and evaluating your current prescription.

Eye Coordination & Focusing

Assessing how effectively your eyes work together and focus.

Eye Health

Examining the structures of the eyes for signs of potential concerns.

Eye Pressure

Evaluating intraocular pressure as part of assessing glaucoma risk where appropriate.

Retinal & Optic Nerve Health

Assessing important structures at the back of the eye for indications of eye disease.

Eye Care for All Ages

Eye care needs change throughout life. Our doctors provide comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, with examinations tailored to each patient's individual needs.

Children & Young Adults

Vision plays an important role in learning and development. Regular eye examinations can help identify vision concerns that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Adults

Changes in vision can occur gradually. Routine examinations help keep prescriptions current while giving your optometrist an opportunity to monitor your overall eye health.

Seniors

As we age, the risk of conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration increases. Ongoing eye care can help identify changes and determine when additional testing, management or referral may be appropriate.

Looking Beyond Clear Vision

A comprehensive eye exam isn't only about determining how clearly you can see. It also gives your optometrist an opportunity to evaluate the health of your eyes and identify changes that may not be noticeable in everyday life.

Depending on your age, medical history, family history, symptoms or findings during your examination, your optometrist may recommend additional diagnostic testing. At Coquitlam Centre Eye Care, we have access to advanced testing that allows our doctors to take a closer look at different aspects of your eye health and monitor changes over time.

This can be particularly important when evaluating patients who may be at risk for conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration or other ocular diseases. When further assessment or specialized treatment is required, our doctors can also coordinate prompt referrals to the appropriate ophthalmology specialists.

Advanced Testing & Ongoing Care

OCT Imaging

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) provides detailed cross-sectional images of structures within the eye. These images give your optometrist additional information that can be useful when assessing and monitoring the retina, optic nerve and certain eye conditions.

Visual Field Testing

Your central vision is only one part of how you see the world. Visual field testing evaluates your peripheral vision and can help identify areas of reduced or missing vision that you may not notice yourself.

Glaucoma Evaluation

Glaucoma can require more than a standard vision assessment. For patients with signs or risk factors that warrant further investigation, our clinic offers additional testing including OCT imaging and full visual field analysis to provide a more complete assessment.

Ocular Disease Management

When an eye condition is identified, continued monitoring can be an important part of protecting your vision. Our doctors provide ongoing assessment and management of a range of ocular conditions and, when necessary, coordinate referrals to specialized ophthalmology departments for further evaluation or treatment.
